Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
To the east of the French Quarter lies the Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods. These areas have taken off over the past few years due to their proximity to the French Quarter and more affordable real estate. This area includes a vast array of architectural styles, including shot gun doubles, Creole cottages and center hall cottages. The charming and vibrant personalities of these flourishing neighborhoods, include brightly painted houses and a laid-back vibe. Those attracted to this part of town include long-time natives, as well as newcomers to the city. Located near several restaurants and live music clubs, many within walking distance, fuels the excitement for this popular area. Also located in the Marigny is the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), which is a popular and well- regarded high school for the city’s young budding artists. The Bywater’s Crescent Park offers a place for residents to bike or watch the sunset. On Sunday mornings, the Bywater Market sets up an array of vendors selling fresh produce and art & crafts.
